February Recap and looking ahead

>> March 02, 2010

I probably read more books in February than any other month – ever.

My son and I had an adventure the first part of the month (college tours and interviews for him). We flew from Omaha to Boston, took the Amtrak from Boston to NYC, and returned home to Omaha in four days. The weekend was filled with sightseeing, campus tours for him, and meet ups for me with friends/ colleagues. Did I mention we were stranded in Milwaukee for a night after circling the airport for about 3 hours? I read three books on this trip, we had a lot of downtime and when there’s time to relax my son’s favorite recreation is sleep!

February Recap:

Books read:
Tainted - 3 stars
Dream House - 3 stars
Come Sunday - 3 stars
Time of my life - 3 stars
Baker Towers (audio) - 3 stars
The Heretic’s Daughter (audio) - 5 stars
The Summer We Fell Apart - 4 stars

ANNA readalong (part 1): Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest in reading Anna Karenina with me. We had a lively discussion for part 1 and if you haven’t commented yet, or if you have read the book already and want to participate click here to read our discussion. We will begin discussing part 2 on March 15.

MMBC: The Wife’s Tale – I just received an email today to tell me that The Wife’s Tale was someone’s favorite book read this year (and they have read about 20 books already). The discussion was wonderful, very relateable and the author (Lori Lansens) is just delightful! If you haven’t listened to the discsussion yet, it’s available on the MMBC page. Click here to comment on the discussion (it’s never too late).

OBC Dicussion: The Omaha Bookworm’s read and discussed The Day the Falls stood Still with author Cathy Buchanan. We talked for about an hour, I surprised the ladies with a video chat! Click here to read about our evening.

Looking ahead to March

That's how I blog: I will be a guest on Nicole's show, That’s how I blog, on March 16th. I’m excited to talk with her but am sorry I never get to participate live – if you are free on the 16th you can call in and particpate with us. We will be discussing Double Fault (Lionel Shriver).

MMBC: We are meeting the very next night! On March 17th we will be discussing Why is my mother getting a tattoo? with Jancee Dunn. Based on the emails I’m receiving everyone is laughing… a lot!

The Omaha Bookworm’s (March 23rd): We are meeting a week later than usual this month to discuss The Help. I read this book almost a year ago so I will be blog hopping to help remember the details! If you have written a review for The Help please leave a comment with the link.

In addition to discussing The Help, we will be selecting books for the rest of the year. Do you have any suggestions for us?

Thaw: Are you reading along? Click here for details!

Thankfully I have read all of my book commitments for the month – I will be spending my evenings reading for pleasure. I brought Men and Dogs with me to the gym last night and read the first few chapters – I just enjoy Katie Crouch’s refreshing style. She tells it like it is and all of the main characters (women) seem to be just crazy! Read page 19 and you will know what I mean. I must keep this book as a gym read only though until I finsih Alice I have been.

Has anyone read Alice I have been? This is not at all what I expected and so far it’s really slow for my taste. I hope it gets better. I will push through and finish it this week – my goal is to have this read before we see the 3D movie this weekend. I do know the stories are not related but I am not a Johnny Depp or Tim Burton fan so I might not want to finish the book after seeing the movie. Your next question might be, “why are you going?” – well my husband wants to see it and he goes to the movies about once a year so I’m grateful to go with him. The 3D looks really cool too.

What are you looking forward to reading this month?
