Checkpoint! Jan 3

>> January 03, 2012

I may have lost my mind this week (thanks Sheila)... I signed up for Tough Mudder (click the link to watch a video of the event)!

So my year is starting with a bang...
- My fitness resolution is to run at least a mile a day for 366 consecutive days (it's leap year)
- March 24: New Jersey Ultra
- May 12/13: Tough Mudder

My husband was so excited when I told him I wanted to sign up, he mentioned that a few people at work ran the course a few months ago... we now have a team!

Wall of Shame: The day after I signed up for the Tough Mudder I asked my husband to install monkey bars in our basement.  He and our son built 'the wall of shame'.  It's a ladder going up the wall, and will have a few monkey bars across the rafters... for training.  Since I have no upper body strength, this will be so helpful for my training.  If I can climb this with only my arms, I should be ready.

My son's girlfriend filled the wooden boards with words of encouragement.  Super Fun!

Now I'm lobbying for a rope to be installed so I can learn to rope climb.  My husband is working on this request.

My Checkpoint! for the week:

Accountability:
-  Last week: I had a light week, running just 18 miles.  I should have run more but I choose to enjoy time with family over long runs.  This week I will start ramping up my mileage.
-  DailyMile December 100 mile challenge: 101 miles (woohoo)
-  Stretching: better than last week!  15 - 20 minutes a night
-  Nutrition: Mostly good.  This week I start a hard core nutrition plan.

Fitness challenges:
- I still need to work on finding time for about 30 minutes of stretching.
- Back to gym I go!  I need to build up strength for the Tough Mudder

This week:
- Run everyday with 5 days of training distances: 3, 5, 4, 10, 5
- Get to the gym at least three times for weight training (working up to 5x, plus all the running I need to do)

How was your fitness last week?  Do you have any events coming up?

This is a weekly post through the Tough Mudder in May.  Leave a comment with an update on your week or leave your blog/post link below.  I will cheer you on!
